- How high up is their house on stilts? 10ft? 2ft?
- Why were they carrying the excrements up the mountain?
- Where did they get their chicken? Was it already there?
Part 1 Chapter 3
- How old is the little seamstress?
- Does the narrator like the seamstress? Luo seems like he does not.
- The seamstress is living alone. How does she get food? Does her father come back with food for her or does she go out and buy some?
Part 1 Chapter 4
- Why was Luo crying?
- When did Luo get the letter? Did he ever get to read it?
- How did the seamstress know the narrator played the violin?
Part 1 Chapter 5
- "The saying goes: A sincere heart can make even a stone blossom. So tell me, was the flower girl's heart lacking in sincerity?" (35). Everyone who heard this cried. I do not understand why they cried. Must be because the story of the flower girl is that sad. Now I want to hear the story.
- When the little seamstress asked, "D'you believe in that sort of thing?" (37). What did she mean? Believe in what? The healing power of medicine?
- The seamstress kissed Luo at the end. Does this mean she likes him? How does the narrator feel about this?
